Biography
Dr. José Aurelio Medina-Garrido is an Associate Professor at the University of Cadiz. He belongs to the Department of Business Organisation of the University of Cadiz. He is the Director of the Departmental Section and has been Secretary of the Department. He is a member of the INDESS (University Institute for Sustainable Social Development of the University of Cadiz). He has participated in the Organising and Scientific Committee of several national and international conferences. He is currently leading a research project on identifying the determinants of high-growth entrepreneurship in which the impact of corporate social responsibility policies, business sustainability and circular economy, among other variables considered, are studied. He has research experience in entrepreneurship, management information systems and human resource management. He was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Warwick. He has published in several high-impact journals, including the International Small Business Journal, International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal, International Journal of Hospitality Management, International Journal of Human Resource Management, International Journal of Management Education, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, Expert Systems with Applications, Sustainability, and International Journal of Agile Systems and Management. He has published several books and chapters and 16 annual editions of the GEM Andalucía Report. He was a senior member of the GEM (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor) team in Andalusia between 2003 and 2020. Dr. Medina-Garrido leads the Andalusian Research Plan Group “New challenges for business management: information systems, sustainability and entrepreneurship” (Ref. SEJ-639), and has participated in two Research Projects obtained in public and competitive calls financed by national and European programs: the National R&D Plan “Dynamic Capacities and Strategic Change” during the period 1999-2001 and the “Creation of Cultural Enterprises”, during the period 2004-2007. He has been the principal investigator in charge of the UCA Project “Determinants and socio-economic impact of high potential entrepreneurship” during 2017-2018. He has participated in 34 contracts for the Transfer of Research Results to the business world, carrying out studies on entrepreneurship and consulting on management and information systems to companies; being the main responsible in 7 of these contracts. He has coordinated several modules in Official Master’s Degrees at the University of Cadiz.
